DC GIS Standards

DC GIS has adopted the following standards for GIS data and systems created by DC agencies.

National Standards

  • Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC):  The FGDC establishes geospatial standards for the US government.  FGDC standards facilitate the development, sharing, and use of geospatial data.
  • Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC™):  The OGC is a nonprofit, international, voluntary consensus standards organization leading the development of standards for geospatial and location-based services. Many OGC specifications, documents, and guidance have been adopted as industry standards. Others are fairly new and not mature.
